Wailuku, HI - Alvin Fumio Kanda, 92, passed away on January 22, 2026 at home in Wailuku, Maui, where he was born. Preceded in death by his parents Takeo William and Matsue Mabel Kanda, and brother Leslie Kanda. Survived by his cousins.

Alvin was a quiet individual who kept to himself but touched many by his brilliance. He received a Bachelor of Science With Distinction from the University of Minnesota in 1955, and belonged to the prestigious engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi. An innovative electrical engineer, he worked for Beckman Instruments in Scottsdale, Arizona and held several patents. An enthusiastic radio operator known as N7AK, he designed and sold his own electronic keyers for a while under the name Alkan Products. He later retired back to Maui. He also maintained a website developing digital art products depicting Maui's past.

Katarzyna Pawlus Ono, an amateur genealogical researcher, is gratefully acknowledged for alerting the family about Alvin's passing.

To honor Alvin's memory and character, the family is not accepting monetary offerings, cards nor flowers. No services.
