Anna Maria Bagnall (Sweetheart) Obituary

Kahului, Hawaii - Anna Maria "Sweetheart" Bagnall

May 25, 1939 - March 19, 2026

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life so deeply felt, we share the passing of Anna Maria "Sweetheart" Bagnall, who passed peacefully on March 19, 2026 under the care of Hospice Maui. A proud Native Hawaiian woman from Keʻanae, Maui, she was born on May 25, 1939 to her parents, Anna Ka'auamo Smith and Edward Alton Smith.

Anna was many things—strong-willed, spirited, a bit of a rascal, and full of heart. She carried a fire within her that could not be dimmed, paired with a sweetness that earned her the name "Sweetheart." She loved in her own way—fiercely, honestly, and without pretense.

She found joy in life's simple rhythms—being at home, in her space, and especially in the small adventures that brought her happiness. Quick trips to the store became cherished moments, filled with laughter and connection. It was in these everyday outings that her love was felt most—arm in arm, step by step, turning the ordinary into something unforgettable.

Anna was preceded in passing by her beloved husband, Marcus Robert Bagnall, and her daughter, Deborah Lynn Hill.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Tawnya Bagnall, Dianna (Jonathan) Puahala, Clark Hill, and Doreen (Frank) Bouchard, who carry forward her strength, her lessons, her wit and love.

She was a proud grandmother to Jadie Gaoiran, Jeremiah Hill, Kamalani Puahala (Leeanza Kekahuna), Hunter Hill, Vincent Hill, Joshua (Michaela) Bouchard, and Mele (Tyler) Wagner; and a cherished great-grandmother to Ioane Puahala, Aylah Reign Puahala, AnaMalaea Wagner, Elizabeth Bouchard, and Carter Bouchard.

Anna is also survived by her hānai sister Haunani (Charles) Barclay and hānai brother Peter "Kaholowa'a" Smith, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunties, and extended ʻohana who will continue to speak her name and remember her story.

In her final days, she was surrounded by deep care, love, and presence. That time, though heavy with sorrow, was also filled with connection, healing, and a bond that will forever be carried in the hearts of those closest to her.

Anna's presence will be deeply missed—the sound of her voice, the energy she brought into a room, and the quiet moments that meant everything. Yet her spirit remains—in the memories we hold, in the lessons she left behind, and in the love that continues to guide us.

There will be no funeral services or public viewing. Scattering of her ashes will take place at a later date.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt mahalo to all who have reached out with love, prayers, and support during this time. Your kindness and aloha have meant more than words can express.
