Celestine Midori Steitz Obituary

Celestine grew up in Pi'ihana, Wailuku. She attended St. Anthony School and graduated in 1968. In 1969, she enrolled at Academy Beauty College and received her beautician license. However, it was in the food and beverage industry that Celeste found her calling. In 1993, she moved to Central New York with her former husband, Jay Steitz and their three children. In 2009, she moved back to her homeland and retired from food and beverage hospitality in 2025. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, shopping, cooking, and eating pupus while watching the sunset.

Celestine was a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her unconditional love for her children and grandchildren, generosity toward others, and her bubbly personality.

She is survived by former spouse Jay Steitz; her children, Ian Kaipo (Norine) Matsumura, Jay-Nel (Dan) Mera, Ray-Ley Ki-Yanna Steitz, and Jay-Mi Steitz; grandchildren Kori Matsumura, Kaili Matsumura, Sie-Jay Steitz, Nico Glenny, Nohea-Lee Steitz and Duke Mera.
