Paia, Hawaii - July 14, 1941 - October 5, 2025

Esther E. Takakura, 84, of Paia, was called to Heaven on October 5, 2025 surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Esther attended Maui High School, class of 1959. She earned her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1963, and spent the next 40+ years at Maui Memorial Medical Center, working her way up to Assistant Director of Nursing.

Her greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with each of her grandchildren, and most recently her great grandchildren, whom she adored. She also enjoyed watching football (GoPackers!) and of course, going to Vegas.

She was predeceased by husband, Wayne Takakura; parents, Tetsunosuke & Kii Hata. She is survived by daughters, Lynne, Avis, Gwen, Lisa (Peter); grandchildren, Kalei (Kamaki), Jordon (Kelli), Marcus (Shaiann), Mia; and 7 great grandchildren, Melia, Kia'i, Kulaiwi, Emree, Kikaha & Kuha'o, and Makoa.

"Mom, we love and miss you. You devoted all of yourself to us, and we are forever grateful. You will always be our hero. Until we are together again, rest in peace Mom. Love, your daughters."

Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Kahului Union Church. Visitation will begin at 9am with services to start at 10am.

A private innichment will be held at a later time.
