Pukalani, Hawaii - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Itsuko Among on July 1, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on September 15, 1935, in Kure City, Japan to Sakutaro and Sasayo Honda. She was the fifth born of six children; three brothers, Sadamu, Shoichi, and Yukitaka, and two sisters, Sumiko and Yohko. Itsuko lived a full and vibrant life that touched many hearts.

In her early years, Itsuko trained as a cosmetologist in Japan, a profession that honed her keen eye for beauty and detail. She later brought her talents to the Duty Free Shoppers in Waikiki, Hawaii, where she retired after many years of dedicated service.

Itsuko was the beloved wife of the late Edwin E. Among. She is survived by her son Edwin Kenji Among, daughter-in-law Kum Sok Among, and daughter Sandra Yuko Sherlock. She was a proud grandmother to James Masa Sherlock, Deena Gilbert, and Jenniffer Corriea.

A devout and active member of the Rissho Kosei-kai Buddhist Church of Hawaii - Maui Dharma Center, Itsuko's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was always well-dressed and poised, embodying grace and elegance in all that she did.

Known for her culinary skills, Itsuko delighted friends and family with her famous potato salad, soba noodles, and curry. She was also an avid reader who found joy in the world of books and had an intense passion for life.

Those who knew Itsuko will remember her as a feisty and fierce personality, yet always polite and sweet-spoken. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service to celebrate Itsuko's life will be held at Rissho Kosei-kai Buddahist Church of Hawaii, 1809 Nani Street, Wailuku, HI 96768 on July 11, 2024 at 1030. Flowers can be sent to the church on July 11 between 800 to 1000. If you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rissho Kosei-kai Buddahist Church in her honor. Checks can be mailed to the address above or brought to the memorial.
