Jackie's family lived in a few different places, both on the mainland and on Maui, with a goodly portion of her life in Spreckelsville and graduated from Baldwin Highschool. Their house had been built by her grandfather John Venhuizen. When she and her mother moved to Pukalani, they had the whole house moved to their new property on Makani Road. The house had originally been built on an ocean front property. As such, the house was designed with the best view from the back lanai. When the house was moved and placed on Makani Road, there was no ocean view, so the house was set with the back lanai facing the road and majestic Haleakala. The actual front porch faces the neighbor's house on the makai side of the lot.

Jackie ran a small business making silk lei for various occasions. It was an enjoyable source of income, which she supplemented with other work, which included working in the Deli section of the Pukalani Foodland. Her very pleasant demeanor was very well suited to any occupation that involved meeting and interacting with people. She also did custodial work at a bank in Pukalani as well as a dental office in Pukalani.

She never obtained a driver license. For many years, she was a passenger in an all original 1948 Plymouth coupe driven by her mother. After her Mom's passing, she kept the car but never drove it. She generally walked to conduct her daily activities. On special occasions like holidays or birthday dinners, she could always count on her close relatives to drive her. She could count on neighbors and friends to take her to appointments if she could not catch the bus. Her gentle manner made her a pleasant passenger. She once ran in the Honolulu Marathon. Maybe she wanted to test her stamina after all the walking she did around Pukalani.

Jackie loved dancing, spending many happy evenings with friends from work. She also really enjoyed seeing new places. She travelled across parts of the U.S. as well as Europe. Not really a techie, she didn't carry a cellphone or camera everywhere, so there are not enough photos of her dance activities or her travels. Those photos that do remain show that she seemed to really enjoy everywhere she went Jackie loved her cats and had quite the large "family" of indoor and outdoor cats. She was more than willing to feed and tend to any stray kitty that came her way. Any food she put out for her cats was enjoyed by any cat in the neighborhood that felt like dropping by the house and that was all okay with Jackie. The cats will miss her.

She was a gentle soul with a constant smile who has now gone on to rest in a kinder, gentler place.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that well-wishers consider making a donation to the East Maui Animal Refuge, also known as the Boo Boo Zoo. This volunteer organization has been very helpful by taking in and finding new forever homes for Jackie's many feline friends.
