James Lundie Fleming (Jim) Obituary
Wailuku, HI - James Lundie Fleming, known to most as "Jim," passed away peacefully at Roselani Place after a short battle with dementia, at the age of 74.
Born in Honolulu, Jim graduated from Hawai'i Preparatory Academy in 1969 and studied geology at Whittier College, where he helped lead peaceful protests against the Vietnam War.
After college, he moved back to Hawaii raising his family on Maui where he spent over 20 years at Maui Pineapple Company, eventually leading Agricultural Research. He later worked in maintenance at Seabury Hall, where all three of his children—Lundie, Aut, and Sabie—graduated.
A lifelong surfer with a smooth style, Jim found peace in the lineup at Ho'okipa and Tavares. In his later years, he softened and found joy, especially in family life.
He is survived by his children, three grandchildren—Lily, Stevie, and Chelsea—his brother John, and sister Nancy.
A paddle-out will be held at Ho'okipa on June 8 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Jim's 30-year journey as a prostate cancer survivor.
