Jane Asako Kusuno Obituary
Makawao, HI - Jane Asako Kusuno, 99, of Pukalani, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026.
Born on August 30, 1926, Jane grew up in Olowalu, a place she always considered home. She was the second of five children born to Yoshio and Matsue Morishima. After marrying Jack Kusuno, they settled on family land in Pukalani, where they raised their family.
Jane worked in the pineapple cannery and later in Maui's hotel industry. At home, she found her greatest joy in family and the simple pleasures of island life—reading, talking story, taking drives around the island, sharing an okazuya lunch, harvesting mangoes, avocados, oranges, pears, and lilikoi from the family property with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, and caring for the many dachshunds and cats she loved through the years.
She was preceded in death by her son, Glen, who passed away before the age of two. Years later, she lost her husband, Jack, while their children were still at home, followed by her brothers, George "Yoshi" Morishima and Richard "Teru" Morishima. Through each loss, she met life with quiet strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Jane was kind, humble, independent, and had a wonderful laugh. She cared for her mother until her passing and was a steady source of love and support for her family. In her later years, that same love came full circle as her daughter Gayle lovingly cared for Jane for more than a decade, allowing her to remain at home, surrounded by the family she cherished.
Jane is survived by her son, Ivan Kusuno and his wife, Shirley, and their children, Jason and Jeremy; her daughter, Gayle Fitzsimmons and her husband, John Michael Fitzsimmons, and their children, Crystal, Michael, Julie, and Daniel; one great-grandchild, Ian Miller; her younger brother, Edward "Masa" Morishima; her younger sister, Norma Jean Fujise; and nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a luncheon with family and friends.
The family extends its heartfelt mahalo for the kindness, prayers, and support shared with Jane and our family throughout the years.
