Kahului, Hawaii - Richard W. Cugal, 82, of Kahului, passed away peacefully at Hospice Maui on August 8, 2025. Richard was born on August 11, 1942 in Hamakuapoko, Maui.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Christ the King Church in Kahului from 9:00am to 11:00am. Service will begin at 11:00am followed by burial at Maui Memorial Park at 12:30pm. Nakamura Mortuary is assisting with the arrangements.

Richard loved God, and he attended Christ the King Church. He was a patient man who cared for others. Richard graduated from Maui High School (Hamakuapoko) in 1961. Retired from the Maui Electric Company (MECO) after 45 years. Also, his hobbies included fishing/throwing net and watching sports, especially baseball.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 61 years, sons Derrick (Wainani) Cugal, Mark Cugal, and Troy Cugal. Brothers, Clifton Cugal, and Cecil (Julie) Reed; sisters, Martha "Iris" Reed, and Donna Reed; in-laws; James Stanley Gomes, Patricia Hudak, Carole Fernandez and Marilyn (Richard) Ota. Grandchildren, Jordan Cugal, Kendall Cugal, Torye Cugal, and Kamaile Cugal; great grandchildren, Kauanoeanuhea "Kaua" Cugal, Ava Cugal, and Jameson Cugal.

He is predeceased by his birth mother Florence (Unabia) Reed; adoptive parents father Pedro (Rosalia Unabia) Cugal; brother's Joseph Cugal, William "Billy" (Susan) Reed; Sister Jean (Arthur) Souza; in-laws; Jack Hudak, Betty Gomes, Joseph Fernandez; and daughter-in-law Nadine (Albiar) Cugal.

Special thanks to the medical staff at Kaiser, Hale Makua Kahului, and Hospice Maui for taking excellent care of Richard in his final days.
