Kihei, HI - Rick was the only child of George Darwin Holland (1921-2019) and George Ann McInnis
(1920-1975) born on September 30,1946 in Fredericksburg, Texas. His father was a lawyer,
contractor and an instructor pilot. His mother was a school teacher. His elementary school years
were spent in San Antonio, Texas, but his fondest memories were spent with his grandparents
in Llano, Texas. The family moved to Sacramento,California where his father and Uncle started
up their business, Federal Projects Inc. Rick started his Freshman year at Mira Loma High
School. Rick was on the high school tennis team all 4 years. His father was an excellent tennis
player and he taught Rick the art of stringing racquets. Rick started his first business in high
school, stringing tennis racquets for family and friends.
In 1978 Rick and a partner started a tennis shop called the Racquet Works in Sacramento.
California. After one year Rick bought out his partner and became the sole owner of the
Racquet Works. Rick met his soon to be wife, Rosalie Heitzman through tennis. He hired her
during his first year of business where their friendship and love grew. They were married in 1983
and had two sons, Ricky Holland, born on Oct 5, 1983 and Rhett Holland, born on Oct. 2, 1987.
Rick and Rose worked side by side raising their family until closing their business in 2005. But
the love of tennis continued and for 37 years Rick raised his family in the tennis business.
From 2005 until 2008 Rick sold cars for GMC. In 2008 he left the car business to help Rose,
who was a Merchandise Manager for the Sacramento Rivers Cats, (a triple AAA baseball team
for the Oakland A's). Together again, Rick and Rose worked for 10 years. They retired during
the pandemic and had the opportunity to move to Maui, Hi. to enjoy their retirement with their
son Ricky, daughter in-law Carol and grandson Conrad. Rick spent the last years of his life
working at the Wailea tennis club where he worked in the pro shop and once again was
stringing tennis racquets. Rick especially loved spending time with his grandson Conrad building
RC cars, bike riding, flying drones. They did all things mechanical, building and designing so
many projects from paint dipping to obstacle courses for drones.
Rick is survived by his wife, Rosalie, 42 years of marriage, his eldest son Richard Wallace
Holland II (Kihei, Hawaii), daughter in-law Carol, 13 year old grandson, Conrad. His second son
Rhett Heitzman Holland (Sparta, Tennessee) and his wife Kara. He is also survived by his
cousins Vance Holland and Douglas Holland.
A family celebration will be held in his honor in the future.
