Robert "Bob" Floyd Bean passed away peacefully at home in Kailua Kona on April 1, 2025. Born on May 8, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah, he is preceded in death by his parents Arvel and Evelyn Bean and his wife Mary Lou Gouveia Bean of 52 years.


Bob moved to Oahu at the age of seven and graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1944.


He served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Returning back to Hawaii after his discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Hawaii, class of 1954.


Bob and Mary Lou moved to the Big Island in 1955. Bob taught and was appointed acting Principal at Laupahoehoe School. He then relocated to Honokaa and took a Vice Principal position for one year. After Honokaa he served as Principal for Kau High and Pahala Elementary, followed by Hilo Intermediate for 10 years. Next position was the first Principal of Waiakea High School in 1976. He then retired from the DOE as District Liaison for West Hawaii.


Bob is survived by his children, Emilou Alves (Vince) of Waikapu, Maui, George Bean of Lake Elsinore, California, Charles Bean (Traci) of Wailuku, Maui and Ross Bean (Christine) of Holualoa, Kona.


He is blessed with 11 grandchildren - Brandon (Candice), Hoikaika (Mahealani), Haunani, Hookahi (Olivia), Kaiohu (Alexa), Kellen, Kendra, Cody (Annette), Malia (Cory), Taryn (Pasha) and Dannielle (Bobby), and 23 great grandchildren - Makana, Lily, Lokelani, Kukui, Kaiohu, Kamaile, Kalilinoe, Kealii, Loea, Lahela, Waiapo, Kyra, Ziggy, Kauila, Kealaula, Mila, Kiana, Bowie, Corrina, Alexandra, Chase, Walker, and Jordan.


Bob and his late wife Mary Lou enjoyed bowling, traveling, and spending countless times with family.


Bob would like to be remembered as "a man who adored his wife and was very nice to her" and that he "enjoyed his family and is proud of them".


A memorial service will be held on Monday April 28, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 230 Kalani St. Kailua Kona, HI 96740 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., followed by a burial at Kona Memorial Park, Holualoa.


The family extends heartfelt thanks to Kona Hospice and Hualalai Regency for their compassionate care.
