Rose Kim Alcomindras (Tutu) Obituary

Aberdeen, WA - April 23, 1934 - September 30, 2025

Vivacious, charismatic, and so deeply loved.

Rose Kim "Tutu" Alcomindras, 91 — beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend — passed peacefully on September 30, 2025, listening to Hawaiian music and holding a pillow printed with photos of her family.

"Aloha no" ("love indeed") was how she greeted everyone she met.

Born in Kealakekua, Hawai'i, Tutu's life was a story of resilience, laughter, and love. As a young child, she moved to Lana'i, where she was raised by her single father on the pineapple plantation. It was there she learned the strength, courage, and determination that would define her life.

After graduating from Lana'i High and Maui Technical College, she met the love of her life, Victor Alcomindras of Pu'unene, Maui, at a school event. They married in 1953 and shared a lifetime of laughter, travel, and devotion. Some of their happiest memories were during retirement in Las Vegas — where they played the penny machines, laughed endlessly, and once got so excited to leave for the casino that Tutu forgot to close the front door.

Tutu often said her only regret in life was not having more children. Her pride and joy were always her grandchildren, whom she spoiled "rotten, but somehow they still turned out good."

For 37 years, Rose worked at The Maui News, rising from secretary to become Advertising Director — a remarkable achievement for a woman of her time. She grew the advertising section from two pages to more than thirty for Sunday and holiday editions, fueled by her creativity, humor, and fearlessness. When asked the secret to her success, she'd laugh and say, "I had more guts than brains." She loved deeply, laughed loudly, and never forgot her humble beginnings.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; her son, Victor Jr.; and her son-in-law, Michael. She is survived by her children Anne Lokelani, Alan, and Terry; daughter-in-law Karen; grandchildren Malia (Steve), Chelsea (Danielle), V.J. (Kira), Alexis Alana, and Austin; and great-grandchildren Jack Kainoa, Ava Lokelani, Aaliyah Ku'ulei Maile, and Jesse Alan Ka'ilimoku.

Her spirit lives on in every laugh, every act of courage, and every time we "throw the cork away" in her honor — a happy hour toast to a life well-lived.

Most of all, we say: Mahalo, Tutu. We can never thank you enough for the love, laughter, and memories you gave us — gifts we will cherish, live, and pass on.

In her honor, a celebration of life was held in Aberdeen, WA. After 18 years apart, Rose will be reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Victor Sr., whom she joins for eternal rest in heaven. Her burial will take place at the Maui Veterans Cemetery on December 11, 2025 at 10:30AM.

"We love you more."

Aloha no, aloha no, aloha no.
