Kihei, Hi - Stephan "Steve" Turner passed peacefully from this life on July 27, 2026.

Steve was an acclaimed Scrimshaw Artist. He landed on Maui in 1977 and began working at

Lahaina Scrimshaw, perfecting his craft. His hand etched scrimshaw works were highly sought

after by collectors. After relocating to northern California in the 1980's, he continued creating

magnificent scrimshaw pieces along with oil and watercolor paintings, and eventually returned to

Maui in 2016.

Steve loved playing guitar and was a member of various bands, starting in his teenage years. He

enjoyed composing original songs in the American Western style, and was the leader of his band

"The Coyotes" in California for several years.

He is survived by his partner, Celeste Thomas. Many thanks to Islands Hospice for their kind and
